History

ElexoPharm GmbH
was founded by Prof. Rolf. W. Hartmann and Dr. Christine Batzl-Hartmann as a spin-off of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry of Saarland University in 2005. The department has more than 20 years experience in design, synthesis and biological evaluation of pharmaceutically active substances which is documented in approximately 160 publications and numerous patents ().

During the last years the department was increasingly involved in industrial projects. Several drug discovery projects in cooperation with pharmaceutical companies are still in progress. The formation of ElexoPharm in autumn 2005 was induced by the increasing demand from the pharmaceutical industry for research cooperations in the field of medicinal chemistry. After Pharmacelsus, which successfully offers research services concerning in vitro and in vivo evaluation of pharmaceutically active substances since 2000, ElexoPharm is the second start-up company derived from the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry.
